Eden Bertrang, IBCLC, CCCE, CD, is an international board-certified lactation consultant, certified cooperative childbirth educator, and certified birth doula. She has supported families through pregnancy and early parenthood for almost two decades.
Eden began attending births in the New York metropolitan area in 2006 and became certified as a DONA International doula in 2008. That same year, she completed the Midwifery Assistant Training with Ina May Gaskin at The Farm. In 2010, she travelled to Senegal to participate in a midwifery exchange program offered through The African Birth Collective. This outreach project permitted her to provide much-needed medical supplies to the birth center where she volunteered. Motivated by her doula work and experience as a midwife’s assistant, Eden became certified as a cooperative childbirth educator through The Childbirth Education Association of Metropolitan New York (CEA/MNY). CEA/MNY is a non-profit organization made up of childbirth professionals and consumer advocates, training childbirth educators and supporting the birthing community for over 50 years. Since 2010, Eden has served on CEA/MNY’s board of directors, including two terms as board president. She has taught childbirth education classes for Pregnancy & Parenting, Stork & Cradle, Birthly, Nourri-Source Laval, and now teaches privately. Eden also taught at a homeless shelter through a partnership between the We Care for Your Kids Foundation and Little Essentials, an organization dedicated to improving the health, safety, and well-being of children living in poverty. The birth of her first child in 2012 motivated Eden to become an international board-certified lactation consultant (IBCLC). During her training, she had the opportunity to participate in the Mt. Sinai Beth Israel Lactation Internship program and was supervised by some of NYC’s most experienced lactation consultants in private practice. Eden is certified by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE) and is a member of the New York Lactation Consultants Association (NYLCA), the Association Québécoise des Consultantes en lactation diplômées de l'IBLCE (AQC), and the Canadian Lactation Consultant Association (CLCA). She currently serves as president on the Association Québécoise des Consultantes en lactation certifiées (AQC) board. As an IBCLC, she has worked for the NYC Department of Health’s Newborn Home Visiting Program and the Roper/Queen Elizabeth Breastfeeding Clinic. She has also had the privilege of being part of research projects, including the 'she MATTERS' project, which aims to determine whether a breastfeeding intervention can improve blood pressure and biomarkers of metabolic risk in women with hypertensive disorders of pregnancy. Eden currently works at the Goldfarb Breastfeeding Clinic at the Jewish General Hospital in Montreal in addition to her private practice. Eden feels blessed to have been part of the transformative journey of pregnancy, birth, and lactation, and she looks forward to supporting childbearing families in Montreal and New York. Her compassion and insight foster a safe environment during these intimate experiences. |
