Eden is passionate about doula work because she feels that everyone deserves support during labor and birth. She does not believe that there is a “right way” to give birth, but trusts that everyone can find a way that honors the unique experience of having a baby.
The role of a doula is to provide emotional support, physical comfort, and evidence-based information to help expectant parents have a safe and satisfying birth experience.
Clinical studies have shown that the presence of a doula can reduce the need for pain medication, for forceps/vacuum extraction and for cesarean section. A doula’s presence can also increase the woman’s sense of wellbeing and satisfaction with the labor and birth experience. A doula is not a healthcare provider and will not perform clinical tasks or make medical decisions.
A doula can facilitate breastfeeding and help parents adapt to the new family dynamics.
Doula services include:
Courtesy informational meeting
Two prenatal visits to learn birth preferences and prepare for birth
On-call from the 37th week of pregnancy until the baby’s birth
Ongoing phone, email, and text support
Attendance of the labor and birth
Breastfeeding support, if desired
Two postpartum visits
Eden charges $2500 for this complete doula package. An itemized receipt will be provided so that breastfeeding support can be submitted to your insurance plan for reimbursement. Breastfeeding support in the postpartum period might be reimbursable because it is being provided by an international board certified lactation consultant.
